Oliver Fredrickson
Oliver Fredrickson is an employed barrister for Christopher Stevenson KC.
After completing his LLB(Hons)/BCom at Victoria University, Oliver worked as a Judge’s Clerk for Heemi Taumaunu, the Chief Judge of the District Court. While there he played a significant role in the design, development, and implementation of Te Ao Mārama – the new vision for the District Court.
Whilst working with Christopher Stevenson KC, Oliver has assisted with numerous complex and high-profile cases spanning the full spectrum of criminal offending, including murder, manslaughter, sexual offending, and drug offending. He has also appeared as junior counsel on appeals before the Court of Appeal and Supreme Court.
In 2023, Oliver obtained an LLM (Highest Hons) from Columbia University in New York. Later that year, he was awarded the Cleary Memorial Prize – a prestigious award given to a young barrister or solicitor who shows outstanding future promise in the legal profession. In 2025, Oliver received a Travel & Learning Award from the Borrin Foundation to complete a Fellowship at the UK Centre for Justice Innovation, where he published a report on New Zealand’s problem-solving courts.
Oliver also has a strong academic interest. He has published 20 articles in academic journals in the United States, United Kingdom, and New Zealand. Two of his articles have been cited by the New Zealand Supreme Court and another by the Court of Appeal.
